My job title is photographer, but I am also a stay at home mom and wife. I am usually pretty good at keeping organized as far as timing goes but with this session I was not predicting getting every red light or that my Garmin would actually underestimate how long it would take me to get to Bradenton. Thankfully though, I have amazing and understanding clients and that Brooke was still asleep when I got there. How beautiful is this little girl!?!?! Photo Editor

A lot of people ask me what I do and I tell them I am a homemaker and a photographer but I am thinking about telling them I am a homemaker and a photo editor. A good photographer can see a moment and capture it, but they are also able to edit that moment. In order to capture the moment sometimes I am not able to adjust my setting in the camera right away so I need to make corrections in photoshop later. That is why is takes some time for me to edit my photos. Here is an example of what I am talking about.

This photo is straight out of the camera. Notice her face is not evenly lit and the picture feels flat.

Here is the "after". I adjusted the curves and lightened her face. BIG difference!!!!

A lot of people ask me what I recommend to do once they get their pictures and I am finally getting around to creating a post about my answer to this question. Here is a picture of what I do with my pictures.

These are 11x14 standouts that are 3/4" thick lightweight board with black plastic edge and they come ready to hang. No frame necessary. We have several of these around the house along with Foamboards.

If you are a picture frame type of person, I recommend finding a catalog and trying to duplicate it. Here are some ideas.

Baby Lauren: New Port Richey Children's Photography

I met Nicole, Lauren's mommy, through a previous bride, Tasha. We chatted several times via email and it was funny just a few days before this shoot she told me where she lived and it was just a few blocks away from my house. It's such a small world sometimes.

Baby Lauren is one of the happiest babies I have ever seen. Her smile is contageous and precious. I loved getting to spend time with her and I am so excited that my little Jo is going to have a new friend in the neighborhood!!!

Carolyn and Dave: Sarasota Wedding

Ok prepare yourself, this is going to be one of my longest blogs EVER!! Carolyn and Dave celebrated their special day at the beautiful Selby Botanical Gardens on February 6th. I was really worried all weekend about the weather and then at the last minute the weather became absolutley perfect. Carolyn used the famous Darla Stafford to help her and her bridesmaids get ready. David and Kristina of Trinity Wedding Video captured their love through motion, I love working with them!! After the ceremony Rob and Justin Sword of Sword Sounds got the party going, the pictures explain it all.
I know a lot of their hard work went into planning this day, but I have to say, it was worth it. What an amazing day!!!! It was a postcard day full of many colors. The day was so colorful, that you will probably notice I do not have as many black and white photos as normal. How could I??? How beautiful is this place and I wanted to capture it all??
I did have one scare in the middle of the ceremony. I was shooting with my #2 camera and all the sudden it started flashing er. 99 and for photographers that means BAD NEWS!!! This is why I always take two cameras and I make sure my second has their own cameras too.
I have to admit though, I am a little sad that their day has come and gone. With a lot of my brides, we email back and forth so many times and go out a few times that I feel like we have become friends. I am going to miss Carolyn and her excited emails. Please keep in touch!!!!

Too Late to Work

I didn't think this was possible but it is, I am having photographers block. It is 1:38 am and I am up finishing up the full edited photos for Carolyn and Dave's wedding and I feel like I am having a block. A creative block. I wish that I could edit the pictures as I take them because when I take a picture I always have an idea in mind. Then when I get home and I am looking at 3000 pictures I forget what each idea was. So... I surf the internet and look for other peoples ideas and it goes a little like this:

Anyways, you get the picture. It is bad for me to have a block because then I stop and when I stop, it takes me 15 minutes to get back on track and then I end up blogging about it. Melissa and Ryan: Tampa Engagement

Melissa and Ryan are getting married in April at the Hyatt Regency. I met them through Becky Morgan with Life Events, whom is wonderful to work with. They are a great couple with good taste in music, we just need to work on those shows though (Hey, did you start watching 24 yet??? I found the video I was telling you about to catch up on LOST!!!) Melissa and Ryan are both still going to school but I love how they are both not bothered by the fact that soon they will have to travel to see eachother. That is how Chris and I started and we loved meeting in fun places and surprising eachother on weekends. It just made our time together so much more precious.
I can't wait for your wedding day!!!

Stephanie and Eric celebrated their marriage with their West Coast Florida friends with a fun reception at The Hurricane. They asked me to come and shoot a few pictures of them dancing, but mainly hired me for the photobooth. Wow am I behind or what? 2009 was a good year for my family and I, but not such a good year for Dawn Haas Photography. Because of our sweet new addition to the family, I shot less than a handful of weddings and even less engagement sessions. I was on a form of bed rest and always had to "take it easy" while I was pregnant, hard to do as a photographer, so I had to take a vacation from shooting.
Although I was not shooting full-time this past year, I took some of the best pictures I have EVER taken this past year. I feel like I get better with EVERY CLICK. To make things even better, I just upgraded to a better camera!!!!!!!

2010 is going to be crazy for Dawn Haas Photography!!!! Full of Weddings, Engagements and new BABIES!!!! This is going to be a good year!

I still would like to look back at this year by just posting my favorites. Here are my favorite photos from each wedding this year.

What I want for Christmas

There will be more pictures coming soon, hopefully tonight, but for fun I wanted to post my Christmas list. Life right now is NOT about me at all and really, the only thing that is about me is my blog so I am going to be totally selfish and write MY WANTS!!!!!

1. No I don't want John Mayer, but I want tickets to his concert coming in FEBRUARY!!!! I would also really like his new CD, well not the CD of course, who still buys those? I would like the MP3s.

2.I guess this is less about me about me and a little about my son, but I really want an annual pass to the Zoo. Evidently our Zoo is the best in the country, did you know that?

3.Of course I would love for my butt to look like the girls in the commercial, so I want the Rebok Easytone.

The ONLY bad thing about a newborn is that the only time I get to work is after 10:30pm. So it is about 1 am and I am finally ready to put up Carolyn's pictures. Sorry girl, I hope you weren't up all night waiting for me.
Carolyn and Dave are getting married in February.....wow that is coming up fast! Anyways, they are getting married at the Selby Gardens which is suppose to be beautiful! I can't wait.

Janina is turning one soon and I went last week to take pictures of her and her family. This sweet family of three made me smile as I watched them play and read together. Janina is blessed with two great parents, and a wonderful mom that is teaching her TWO languages!!! I am so jealous, I wish I could do that.

Birth Annoucement

It has been almost two months now, and I am so sorry, but I am finally getting around to introducing you to the newest edition in our family. Her name is Jolene and she has me wrapped around her finger. I love my little lady and so does everyone else in our house. We were worried about what Christopher would think about her and do, but he just adores her. So when I made her birth annoucements, that is what I kept in mind, the special way he loves her. Zach and Staci Wedding: Safety Harbor

Zach and Staci were married on October 24th and I had so much fun spending the day with them. Although emotions were high for everyone involved, love was in the air. With her Jessica Simpson shoes and his Chucks, they were both all smiles at the sight of eachother at the alter.

Congratulations Zach and Staci!!! Your wedding was beautiful and so much fun. I loved watching you dance the night away. I look forward to getting to know you two more. It was a great start to your new life. God Bless you both.
